Mikael Mohamed is currently head of international relations at Mucem, National Museum of European & Mediterranean Civilizations, which opened in Marseille, France in 2013 within the framework of the Marseille-Provence European Capital of Culture.
He has previously worked within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as director of a French cultural institute in Morocco in 2008-2012, cultural attaché in Latvia 2004-2007 and as a fundraiser for medical research in Paris.
Four years after its opening, the Mucem, National Museum dedicated to European and Mediterranean Civilizations, appears to have reached cruising speed, attracting 1.5 million visitors per year.
Opened in the framework of Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture it contributes to the city urban renewal, generates revenues and create influence.
Starting from the genesis of Mucem, presenting factual overview and key figures, I will present the challenges that this cultural agora shaped to share narratives on the Mediterranean and as a cultural hub have to face today.
